The republication and other use of Current Care guidelines and the related materials

1. Scientific activities

It is permitted to quote the Current Care guidelines, in accordance with good practices, to the extent necessary for the purpose in hand, provided that the source is stated:

    • All republications must state the website address in the following form: www.kaypahoito.fi
    • Superscript reference is permitted as part of the rest of the text, in accordance with good practices.

Reference in a text: (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Current Care Summary, 2009).

When quoting a table or diagram, they must be entirely visible and the source given underneath the quotation, as with slides.

Quotations must always refer to the latest updated versions, which are freely available without passwords at our website on www.kaypahoito.fi.

2. Quoting text in other publications

Provided that the source is stated, it is permitted to quote text from the Current Care guidelines in accordance with good practices, to the extent necessary for the purpose in hand.

You may not use individual sentences, tables or any other items out of their proper context.

    • Referencing rules pertaining to guidelines also apply to summaries.

Publishing a certain guideline in its entirety (offprint) requires permission and agreement on rights of use. For permission processing purposes, the candidate should allow a minimum period of one month. One copy of the offprint must be sent to the following address: Current Care Editorial office (Raija Sipilä), Finnish Medical Society Duodecim, P.O. box 713, FI-00101 Helsinki. 
 
3. Other uses

A Use of guidelines and the related study and teaching material in training for health care personnel

Freely available. Making copies of study and teaching material for a target group is allowed. Presentation is allowed but the content may not be altered. The source must be stated. References; see item 1. 

The use, for commercial purposes, of any electronic study or teaching material prepared by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim and based on guidelines, such as web courses or PowerPoint presentations, is prohibited without the prior permission of the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim.

B Use of guidelines in patient work and medical consultations

Freely available, particularly patient-related material. Content may not be altered, source must be stated. See item 1.

C Use of guidelines in connection with commercial bulletins (for example, marketing, bulletins, slide series, social media or other corresponding issues).

General information:

    • Always subject to specific, one-time permission. Please send your permission request to Raija Sipilä, Managing Editor (firstname.lastname@duodecim.fi).
    • The application for permission must indicate the purpose for which the guideline will be used, the target population and whether the intended use includes one or more guidelines.
    • If there is the intention to market a certain product within the ambit of guidelines published as an offprint, no commercial communications may be located on the cover or the page next to the front page, nor between them, but any such communications must always be appended to the end of the guideline. Should parts of a guideline be used in pharmaceutical advertisements or other commercial communications, the parts relating to the Current Care guidelines must stand out clearly as a separate entity, separate from the advertisement material.

    • The Current Care guideline web pages must always open from the Current Care website, and no other surrounding frames are allowed.

    • Presented on a neutral basis without any logos or themes from a company or product.
