Oral treatmen...»1 included 15 trials, involving 1438 participants of any age, who have a fungal infection of the skin of the foot that has been clinically diagnosed and confirmed by microscopy and growth of dermatophytes in culture. Only one trial (72 participants having moccasin type of tinea pedis) compared itraconazole with placebo (400 mg/day for one week). The exclusion criteria of the trial: no systemic agent 6 months before the start of the study.
Primary outcome was the mycological cure demonstrated by negative results on microscopy and no growth of dermatophyte in culture. One included trial showed that itraconazole was effective compared with placebo: RR 6.67, 95 % CI 2.17 to 20.48.
