Paikallisestrogeenien hyödyistä urogenitaalioireiden hoidossa on vahvaa tutkimusnäyttöä. Laserhoito ei liene vaihdevuosin liittyvien emättimen paikallisoireiden hoidossa tehokkaampi estrogeenipaikallishoitoon nähden «Vaginal laser therapy is probably not more effective compared to local estrogen in short-term treatment of genitourinary symptoms in menopausal women.»B. Se on kuitenkin paljon kalliimpi, joten sen käyttö ei ole perusteltua kuin erityistapauksissa, joissa potilas ei saa riittävää hyötyä muista paikallishoidoista tai paikallishoitoa ei jostain syystä voida käyttää.
