Laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) has advantages over open appendectomy (OA) in pain intensity on day one, wound infections, length of hospital stay and time until return to normal activity in adults. LA also has advantages over OA in wound infections and length of hospital stay in children. LA is associated with higher rate of intra-abdominal abscesses than OA in adults

Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2018;(11):CD001546. . »1 included 85 studies with 9765 participants. Seventy-five trials included 8520 adults and 10 trials included 1245 children. Randomized clinical trials comparing laparoscopic (LA) versus open appendectomy (OA) were included.
