Multidrug treatments are effective in the treatment of leprosy.

A topic in Clinical Evidence «Lockwood D. What are the effects of treatments for leprosy? Clinical Evidence 2004;12:1107-1114.»1 summarizes the results of several observational studies. Observational studies found that multidrug treatments including dapsone, clofazimine and rifampicin improved skin lesions and were associated with a low relapse rate (from 0/1 000 person years to 20.4/1 000 person years at 8–10 years follow-up. Clinical Evidence category: Beneficial.

Comment: The evidence is upgraded by strong association and low relapse rate in long-term follow-up.
